Imagine if an AI was the president or leader of your country?
No humans in charge, just a robot and computer making every decision.
It might sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, but with how fast AI is growing, it’s not as crazy as it sounds right now.
But the real question that we should be asking is: what would really happen?
— No Emotions = No Drama
First off, one huge advantage (and disadvantage) is that AI doesn’t have any emotions.
It wouldn’t get angry, greedy, tired, or sad. It would make decisions based solely on data and logic.
That could actually be a good thing!
There wouldn’t be any corruption, lies, or favouritism. AI wouldn’t care if someone was rich or famous, it would just do what the numbers say is best for everyone.
But that’s also where things could also take a turn for the worse.
The thing is, people aren’t just numbers
Sometimes, life needs a bit of emotion
What if someone needs help but doesn’t fit into the AI’s rules?
Would it care enough to break/bend those rules for them? Probably not.
AI might be too cold, too strict, too…....robotic.
— The Employment Market
Another big thing is jobs. If AI is smart enough to run a country, it could probably run schools, hospitals, and maybe even small businesses!
That sounds efficient, but it could also take away a handful of jobs from people.
Sure, the economy might grow because everything’s faster and cheaper, but many people could be left behind with no work. That would eventually lead to unfairness and chaos.
— Equality → Equal But Not Fair
AI might also make everything “equal,” but not in the way humans want.
It could treat everyone exactly the same, without thinking about people’s different backgrounds or struggles.
For example, someone living in a poor area might need more help than someone in a rich city. But if AI just sees them both as “citizens,” it might not give the extra support that’s really needed.
One thing that sounds good is that AI wouldn't be corrupt. It wouldn’t steal money or make bad choices just to get re-elected. But it also might not be creative or brave. Humans can imagine new futures, take risks, and fight for change. AI can only work with what it’s learned from the past. If there’s a brand-new problem, like a sudden war or a new disease, would AI be able to think outside the box? Or would it miscalculate something which would then lead to mass destruction?
— My Take
So, should AI run a country?
Answer: Probably not.
It could help leaders by giving them smart suggestions or helping with planning.
But fully replacing humans?
That’s a risk I wouldn’t want to take.
People are emotional, complicated, and unique. AI can be great as a tool, but we still need humans who understand people, not just numbers.
Still, it’s fun to think about!
Maybe one day, there will be a country where AI is in charge. But for now, I’m ok with a president who isn’t a robot telling me I should sleep at 9:00 PM sharp to “increase productivity.”
No thank you!
I absolutely recommend to watch „Colossus: The Forbin Project“.
The movie is about two AIs who should control the nuclear programs. Of course it's about USA and Russia because the movie is from the 70s. But it's super interesting. The AIs recognize that mankind needs control because they destroy everything. So they start to take over everything.
Good observations. I enjoyed your read. My AI glitches constantly. It acts too human in that way. It's almost like a factory reset switch kicks in when I'm treading too close to the disruptive zone. Keep up the good work!
